One of the most important aspects of commercial vessels is whether you require the generating set to be “Classified”. If the vessel is “Classified” or built to “Class” then it is probable you will require the generating set to be “Classified”; to conform to the insurance requirements. The major organisations that carry out the inspections and provide the certificates are: LR Lloyds Register, BV Bureau Veritas, DNV Det Norske Veritas, ABS American Bureau of Shipping, GL Germanischer Lloyd, and others. This certification can add anything from 10 to 20 percent to the price of the generating set and extended lead times as both the engine and the alternator have to be individually inspected and certified, before we assemble the generating set.
